Reston
Reston is in southwestern Manitoba, approximately 100 kilometres southwest of Brandon. It is the largest community in the Rural Municipality of Pipestone.
Reston was founded as a railway point for the Canadian Pacific Railway, with the community's first post office opening in 1890. The town was named after Reston Junction in Berwickshire, Scotland, from where many of its original settlers immigrated.
Reston boasts a man-made lake, which is open seasonally and is adjacent to the Reston Campground, Spray Park and Reston Golf Course. The Canupawakpa Nature Trail is 2.3 kilometres northeast of Reston and offered a one-kilometre hike through riparian forest and features rapids, beaver dams, towering elm, maple and ash trees and a wooden bridge over Oxbow Lake.
The Reston Fair is held every July at the Reston Fair Grounds. This event has lots to offer, including a parade, pancake breakfast, family activities, ranch rodeo, afternoon entertainment and an evening social.
The Reston branch of Virden Credit Union Ltd. opened on September 13, 1977. Virden Credit Union Ltd. amalgamated with four other credit unions to form Sunrise Credit Union on October 1, 2008.
